MADISON, Wis. (WJMC) — Next month dairy products from around the region will be recognized as the best of the best at World Dairy Expo.

The World Dairy Expo Championship Dairy Product Contest, sponsored by the Wisconsin Dairy Products Association, recently announced their award winners. Over 96 classes of dairy products were judged earlier this month at Madison College. Entries in the international contest were submitted in cheese, butter, yogurt, ice cream, gelato, cottage cheese, fluid milk, dry milk, whipping cream, sour cream, and whey.

Lake Country Dairy Schuman Cheese, of Turtle Lake, took Grand Champion Cheese, with Vanilla Mascarpone. They also claimed first place awards with Parmesan and a Maple Mascarpone. Second place in the Pepper Flavored and the Flavored Natural Cheese, Open Class Semi-Soft, and Traditional Mascarpone Categories. Third place in Ricotta, Open Class Semi-Soft, and Open Class Hard Cheese categories.

Kurschner’s Super Premium Ice Cream, of Chetek, took Grand Champion Ice Cream, with Peanut Butter Chocolate. Also, first place with Madagascar & Indonesian Vanilla, in the Regular Vanilla Ice Cream category, and second place with Lemon Poppy Seed, in the Open Class category.

Foremost Farms USA, of Clayton, took first place Provolone, with Smoked Provolone.
AMPI, of Jim Falls took first place Colby/Monterey Jack, with Party Jack. They also took first place with Whey Powder, in the Whey category.

Awards will be presented, along with an auction at the Tanbark at World Dairy Expo, Monday, September 29th, in Madison. The WDPA annually funds scholarships for students in dairy industry careers, as well as the National Collegiate Judging Contest.
