MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — A bill that would restrict the types of flags allowed to fly over government buildings in Wisconsin passed the state Assembly Thursday.
Democratic Governor Tony Evers has flown flags over the Capitol recognizing Juneteenth and the LGBTQ plus community. Fond du Lac Republican Jerry O’Connor contends that leaves the door open for other flags that some may object to.
“What I can guarantee is if you start rotating those flags, everybody that drives around the square in Madison, WI is going to be upset because in one way or another you will be offended. You will be divided, and it should not be the result of elected officials causing that division,” O’Connor said.
Evers would likely veto the bill should it reach his desk.
An amendment from two Green Bay area Democrats to fund veterans housing and recovery programs in Green Bay and Chippewa Falls was rejected by majority Republicans. Those centers will close at the end of this month because funding for them was not included in the state budget.
