MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Democrats in the Wisconsin Legislature introduce bills to increase general aid to the state’s school districts.
“Why should our kids be forced to learn in crowded classrooms? And why should parents have to worry if summer school or special education will be funded when Wisconsin has a budget surplus and could do so much better? More than half of our school districts have been pushed to ask local voters to help, just to pay for the basics,” said Wisconsin Education Association Council President Peggy Wirtz-Olsen.
The bills will have challenges in the Republican controlled Legislature. Republicans this week also introduced education focused bills looking at school district consolidation and implementing a teacher’s Bill of Rights.
