MADISON, Wis. (WRN / NWN) — It’s not only the heat that’s going to be an issue this week: smoggy air is also moving into the region.

The Department of Natural Resources issued an ozone and particulate advisory for most of Northwest Wisconsin through the end of the day on Tuesday. Impacted counties include Barron, Burnett, Polk, Sawyer, St. Croix and Washburn counties.

The advice is going to sound similar to the heat warning already in place: stay inside if you can, take breaks outside if you have to go out, and don’t engage in strenuous activities.

Today’s heat advisory for Barron, Chippewa, Dunn, Polk, Rusk and St. Croix, says heat index values could reach 100 degrees through 9 p.m. this evening.

The air quality forecast improves Wednesday, but Thursday brings a chance of impacts from Canadian wildfire smoke.
