(Milwaukee, WI) — The Brewers’ magic number to make the playoffs is down to 25 as they start a home series against the Seattle Mariners. Taking three out of four from the Los Angeles Dodgers last weekend is a huge step toward keeping the home park advantage all the way. Milwaukee won the season series four games to three so if they tie Los Angeles in the won-loss record they still have the advantage. Atlanta leads the Brewers two games to one, but the teams play a three-game series next week. Kyle Harrison is the scheduled starter for tonight’s (Tuesday) game against the Mariners.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Josh Bell’s two-run double started the scoring in a four-run first inning, and the Minnesota Twins held on to beat the Atlanta Braves 4-2. The first six batters reached against Atlanta starter Martín Pérez, with the first four in the order scoring. Bell’s flare down the right-field line fell just inside the chalk and bounced into the stands for a ground-rule double. Royce Lewis and Kody Clemens followed with RBI singles. The bullpen made the early lead stand after starter Bailey Ober could only last 4 1/3 innings. Travis Adams got the win with two perfect innings.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Boosting their cornerback depth was paramount for the Green Bay Packers as they sought roster upgrades after capping a five-game skid to end their 2025 season with a wild-card playoff collapse. The impact of their moves is evident from the fact that Keisean Nixon finds himself in a competition to keep his starting spot one year after he earned a Pro Bowl selection as an injury replacement. Nixon occasionally has worked with the second-team defense in training camp following the Packers’ offseason additions of rookie second-round pick Brandon Cisse and veteran free agent Benjamin St-Juste.
(Green Bay, WI) — The next preseason game on the schedule for the Packers is Friday night at Denver. Two of Green Bay’s preliminary games are on the road this year. The Packers and Broncos last met in the preseason in 2024. After the game in Denver, Green Bay wraps up the preseason at home August 28th against the Arizona Cardinals.
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings safety/linebacker Jamal Adams was placed on injured reserve after leaving a preseason game on a cart with what was later diagnosed as a torn tendon in his right quadriceps. Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters that Adams will have surgery and stay in Minnesota for his rehabilitation to mentor younger players. Adams was the sixth overall pick in the 2017 draft and an All-Pro in 2019 with the New York Jet. He has since had his career derailed by injuries. Adams tore his left quadriceps in the 2022 season opener with the Seattle Seahawks.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin believes its increased investment in roster construction can help the Badgers bounce back from back-to-back losing seasons. Chris McIntosh decided to stick with Luke Fickell rather than making a coaching change before stepping down as Wisconsin’s athletic director. McIntosh believed Fickell could win at Wisconsin if he got more financial support. Wisconsin then added 27 transfers from other Bowl Subdivision programs. Wisconsin had a Power Four-leading 22 straight winning seasons before this recent downturn. The Badgers should benefit from a much more manageable conference schedule.
(Milwaukee, WI) — The Bucks knew they were getting a special player when they drafted guard Brayden Burries, but he’s looking even better than they thought. After strong performances in the NBA Summer League, Burries has been a stand-out in the pro-am circuits. In four games he averaged 26 points, seven rebounds, and three-and-a-half assists. He’s also lived up to his reputation as a strong defender and solid distributor of the ball.
(Menomonie, WI) — Former Menomonie High School and UW-Stout Polytechnic coach Ed Roethke will be inducted into the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame next month. He will be joined by Bob Ritzer of Eagle River and Chuck Schmitt of Sheboygan. Roethke’s teams won at every level – including 326 games in high school and one state title. The induction will be Saturday, September 12th, at the Hall of Fame in Eagle River.
