MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin is electing its top education official, who will guide policies affecting K-12 schools during President Donald Trump’s second term.
Tuesday’s vote pits the teachers union-backed incumbent Jill Underly against Republican-supported critic Brittany Kinser. Underly was elected four years ago and is running as a champion of public schools. But Kinser says Underly has mismanaged the department and was wrong to change a scoring system for statewide tests.
Voters will also decide whether to enshrine a voter ID law in the state constitution. Neither of those issues has gotten as much attention as the high-profile race for Wisconsin Supreme Court.
