MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — A Republican authored bill that would force the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletics Association to have open records received a hearing at the Capitol on Thursday.
Delafield Representative Cindi Duchow says the WIAA has repeatedly mishandled how it operates tournaments and playoffs.
“No one knows how their meetings are conducted, or why certain decisions are made, and schools have no other choice because there is no other alternative other than to join this association,” Duchow said.
Madison Democrat Francesca Hong says opening the W I A A to requests is a slippery slope that could affect groups like the Counties Association or the League of Municipalities.
“So they would then also be subject to open records laws, and you would support that?” DUCHOW: “Well, I’m not going to discuss what other entities are going to do,” Hong said.
This is the second attempt to get this bill passed. A 2015 version passed the Assembly but never made it to the Senate for a vote.
