RICE LAKE, Wis. (WJMC) — This week, a Rice Lake police officer and Rusk County Sheriff’s Deputy are remembered in Washington D.C., for Police Week.
Barron County Police Chaplain Cody Kargus is traveling to the nation’s capital with Paul Baribeau, Levi Glaze and Levi’s mother, Sarah Glaze. The group is visiting the memorial that honors 24 thousand fallen police officers, including Officer Michael Baribeau and Deputy Dan Glaze.
“We’re coming up to the 30th anniversary of Michael Baribeau, of Rice Lake, who was killed in December 19, 1995. But this is a very significant time for Paul Baribeau, to remember his dad and honor his dad from Rice Lake Police Department,” Kargus said. “And then also, Levi Glaze will be going. Levi’s father was killed 8 and-a-half years ago; a deputy from Rusk County. And this will be Levi’s first time going.”
A challenge coin sold to fundraise for the trip, has sold out, Kargus noted.
The Chetek and Cameron police departments visited last year, honoring officers Emily Breidenbach and Hunter Scheel, who were killed in the line of duty in 2023.
The Law Enforcement Foundation of Barron County organized this trip and Kargus said it plans to send other groups in the future.
