MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Be on the lookout for deer this time of year.
State Patrol Sergeant Aaron Gross says motorists should be on high alert for the next several weeks.
“During the months of May and June, normally the does are starting to look for places to give birth and a lot of the younger deer are also separating from their mothers,” Gross said. “So to see kind of just a lot of that activity at the spring of them moving around a bit more and just kind of looking for nice places to bend down and quickest way across and unfortunately it tends to be the interstate.”
There were more than 17,000 crashes involving deer in Wisconsin last year, and nine people were killed.
