MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding ATV/UTV drivers that extra law enforcement will be out this holiday weekend.
The increased presence is part of the Think Smart Before You Start campaign, and DNR wardens and deputies will be monitoring for risky behavior and provide safety tips to drivers.
There have been 28 fatal ATV/UTV crashes in Wisconsin so far this year, with most not wearing seatbelts or helmets. The DNR says alcohol and speed were also contributing factors to those crashes. Officers will be watching for OWIs, speed and careless operation, and helmet and seatbelt use.
Tips for riding safely can be found on the DNR’s website.
