MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Wisconsin legislative leaders unveiled a new piece of legislation which aims to curb reckless driving.
The bill introduced at the Capitol Wednesday would allocate $60 million and state general-purpose revenue for traffic calming grants and to engineer safer roads for Wisconsinites. Milwaukee Democratic State Senator LaTonya Johnson is one of the sponsors of the measure.
“We need to make sure that infrastructure reflects the need of our constituents, and that is to save as many lives as possible by making our streets and our communities safer,” Johnson said.
Last year, there were a total of 138 fatalities and over two-thousand people injured as a result of reckless driving crashes in Wisconsin.
