HERTEL, Wis. (WJMC) — A collision between a pickup truck and a propane tanker truck closed Highway 70 and County Highway H Wednesday afternoon and night.
Burnett County Sheriff Tracy Finch said the crash happened just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, when a pickup driving north on County H failed to stop at the stop sign at Hwy. 70 and collided with an eastbound propane truck owned by Lakes Gas. The truck tipped over and caught fire.
The truck driver was trapped in the cab and was extricated by Burnett County Detective Patrick Carlson, and the driver was taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
The intersection was closed to traffic until 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning, with firefighters monitoring the truck until the propane safely burned off. The crash was under investigation.
