RICE LAKE, Wis. (WJMC) — Last Friday in the Twin Cities, hundreds of businesses shut down for the day and thousands of people marched in the streets in protest of ICE enforcement actions and the shooting deaths of two protesters by federal officers this month.
This Friday, activists are calling for a national shutdown, calling for “no work, no school, no shopping” and “stop funding ICE,” according to their website, nationalshutdown.org.
The Barron County Democratic Party says they are joining the effort with a peaceful protest. It’s set for 12 until 1 p.m. in the 300 block of Main Street, across from Marketplace Foods, in Rice Lake.
