BARRON, Wis. (WJMC) — Barron County officially has a new sheriff.
At the Barron County Justice Center at noon on Monday, Judge James Babler swore in Jodi Kummet as sheriff, with her friends, family and colleagues in attendance.
Kummet, from Barron County, brings with her more than 30 years of law enforcement experience, with most spent as a trooper with the State Patrol’s Spooner post. Gov. Tony Evers appointed her as sheriff following Chris Fitzgerald stepping down from the position in June.
Kummet was overwhelmed but thankful for the support shown to her.
“I’m very excited. I’m very honored to have been appointed by the governor and I can’t wait to get to work,” Kummet said. “There’s quite a few things I’d like to accomplish. One is bring some unity between all the police departments and the sheriff’s department. We’re all one team and we need to get back to that.”
Kummet will serve out the term through January 2027.
