BARRON, Wis. (WRN) — A Barron County man in his 60s is the state’s first confirmed case of West Nile Virus.
Department of Health Services Disease Epidemiologist Rebecca Osborn says there’s things you can do to avoid the virus.
“It really does rely on personal protection measures. Those insect repellents, long sleeves, permethrin is a good one as well to use on your clothing and removing any standing water around your, your property or anywhere where you might be spending time outdoors can also help,” Osborn said.
Mosquitoes collected in Milwaukee and Lafayette Counties have tested positive for the virus.
