RICE LAKE, Wis. (WRN) — Area businesses shut down and churches canceled services on Sunday, ahead of the storm, but this weekend’s blizzard dumped less snow on the northwoods than forecast.

National Weather Service snowfall reports showed around five to six inches of snow in Barron and surrounding counties. South of Eau Claire, a belt across central Wisconsin had snowfall as deep as 18 to 24 inches.
The Wisconsin DOT advised people to not drive in the northern two thirds of the state during the blizzard warning. Blowing winds and snow will continue to impact travel today, with drifting and reduced visibility.

According to the State Climatology Office, Wisconsin typically gets 7 to 8 inches of snow in March, although a large portion of the state has seen a 25 percent decline over the past 50 years.

Some area schools, businesses and organizations are closed or delayed today. Visit northwestnow.net for a current list of closings and cancellations.
