HAYWARD, Wis. (WJMC) — More information about the standoff near Hayward earlier this week.

Sawyer County Sheriff Doug Mrotek said a dogsitter at a residence on Sun N Sno Road found a man inside the residence midday Sunday. The man, who had a handgun and an AR-15-style rifle, claimed he had recently taken ownership of the property and refused to answer any questions. Police determined he was not the current owner.

A standoff with police lasted nearly 27 hours, with tactical officers deploying multiple chemical rounds into the residence. Eventually, the man exited without further incident.

62-year-old Michael D. Olsen was arrested and booked on charges including burglary with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest and failing to comply with an officer.
