LADYSMITH, Wis. (WJMC) — Tonight, the Rusk County Board of Supervisors vote on one step that could bring the county closer to building a new county jail.

The board will decide whether or not have a referendum question with the August 11 election, asking county residents to approve just over $32.3 million for the project.

The county says the current jail is overcrowded, no longer meets current state and safety standards, and has long-term maintenance costs.

The county board meets at 6 p.m. this evening.
