AMERY, Wis. (NWN) — A pilot was injured in a small plane crash near Amery.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said the plane had refueled at Menomonie’s airport and was flying to Brainard, Minnesota, late Saturday morning. While en route, plane developed engine problems and the pilot attempted to land at Amery’s airport, but came up short.

The two-seat, single-engine, low-wing Grumman Trainer made an emergency landing in a field, but the nose dug into the dirt, injuring the pilot. The pilot was airlifted to Regions Hospital, with nonlifethreatening injuries.

The FAA and NTSB were notified and are investigating the crash.
