(Milwaukee, WI) — Brewers starter Jacob Misiorowski flirted with a no-hitter and threw a record 57 pitches of more than 100 miles an hour Monday afternoon. Miz eventually surrendered a run on two hits in seven innings with a dozen strikeouts in Milwaukee’s 5-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. His teammates gave him a three-run lead in the first on Christian Yelich’s two-run homer. Andrew Vaughn went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Kyle Harrison starts tonight’s (Tuesday’s) game.

CHICAGO (AP) — Munetaka Murakami homered, Anthony Kay pitched six sparkling innings and the Chicago White Sox stopped Minnesota’s four-game win streak with a 3-1 victory over the Twins. Drew Romo also connected for Chicago in the opener of a seven-game homestand. Rikuu Nishida singled in the fourth for his first hit in a successful big league debut. The White Sox have won seven in a row against the Twins for the first time since an eight-game streak in 1995. Brooks Lee homered for Minnesota, which had won six of seven overall. Zebby Matthews allowed three runs and five hits in six innings.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Karl Anthony-Towns had 19 points and 14 rebounds, OG Anunoby scored 17 and the New York Knicks routed the Cleveland Cavaliers 130-93 Monday night to complete a four-game sweep of the Eastern Conference finals and advance to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999. Landry Shamet scored 16 off the bench while Mikal Bridges and Jalen Brunson had 15 apiece for the Knicks, who became the fourth team to have an 11-game winning streak during their postseason run. The last to do it was Golden State, which had a 15-game run en route to its second title in three seasons in 2017. Donovan MItchell had 31 points for Cleveland, which was swept in a postseason series for the first time since the 2018 NBA finals against Golden State.
MONTREAL (AP) — Andrei Svechnikov scored at 14:06 of overtime as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 on Monday night to take a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference Final. Shayne Gostisbehere and Taylor Hall scored in regulation for Carolina. Frederik Andersen made 11 saves. Mike Matheson and Lane Hutson scored for Montreal, which got 35 stops from Jakub Dobes. The best-of-seven series returns to the Bell Centre for Game 4 on Wednesday.
(Indianapolis, IN) — A new rule being considered by the NCAA could have a major impact on the Wisconsin men’s basketball team. We’re not there yet. Badgers Wire-dot-com reports on new international recruiting guidelines that would eliminate many players. Anyone who participated in the ACB, the Australian NBL, the EuroLeague, or other professional leagues would become permanently ineligible. As it stands now, coach Greg Gard has six players on his roster who would be affected – Austin Rapp, Hayden Jones, Isaac Riddle, Jackson Ball, Owen Foxwell, and Victory Onuetu.
(Green Bay, WI) — The Packers didn’t do a lot, and that’s why they earned a grade of “C” for their offseason efforts from Bleacher Report. They did sign players like free-agent defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and linebacker Zaire Franklin, who came in a trade, but lost several contributors through trades and free agency. Although a “C” isn’t an impressive rating, the Bears and Lions got the same one, and the Minnesota Vikings got a “D.”
(Milwaukee, WI) — What a difference a year can make. Marquette women’s basketball coach Cara Consuegra led the only college team to bring back every player from the previous season’s roster. Yahoo Sports says Consuegra and her staff face a bigger challenge this time. The Golden Eagles will depend on Halle Vice to lead the way this season, but she will have all-new teammates. Transfers and a big graduating senior class made the job tough, but the roster is filling out now. Vice should be a special player.

SATURDAY
Rice Lake WI, May 23rd – Before a huge Kid’s Night throng of race fans, Kennedy Swan became the first female race car driver in the long history of the Rice Lake Speedway to win a Modified feature race at the speedway. Kennedy’s win topped an eventful night of racing that also saw Nick Koehler nip Mike Schnider for the Midwest Modified feature race in one of the closest finishes in track history. Shawn McFaddden and C.J. Wagner both won their first feature races of the year with McFadden’s being his first ever at Rice Lake while the consistency of Shawn Amundson allowed him to win his third Street Stock feature win of the year.
There was plenty of action during the Saturday night race program but Swan’s win will probably go down in the record books as the most impactful. Kennedy started on the pole for the Modified main and led all laps to take the win as she got up on the cushion and despite several interruptions in the race, she never made a mistake or gave any openings to other drivers chasing her.
It was, however, a wild race for several of the other competitors, most significantly Aiden Hoffman who went for one of the wildest rides at the track in several years. Just two laps into the feature, he raced into turn one, only to have his car bicycle and then he was launched into the air into a wild series of barrel rolls that saw him end up parked on the concrete wall in turn two. Fortunately, Hoffman was not injured but it was one of the scariest rides seen at the track in quite some time.
Swan had taken the early lead and continued to hold the point when racing resumed with both Brady Uotinen and Shane Halopka challenging her for the position. Blake Adams moved up through the pack to become one of the racers persuing Swan but mechanical issues ended the night for both he and Halopka.
Jake Hartung bided his time and gradually moved into position also and by the halfway point he had taken the second spot over and closely trailed Swan. All the slowdowns forced track officials to shorten the race due to time constraints and a one lap dash to the finish was ordered. Swan took off well and rode the cushion one again and Hartung didn’t have the speed to match her as he settled for second with Swan coming passing under the finish line to the roar of the crowd. Austin Ellis snuck into third on the final tour of the race.
There was a wild celebration in victory lane with the family and for the fans who have watched her grow as a driver from the pig tailed teenager to the young college student she currently is, it was a night to celebrate also. While this was Swan’s first Modified feature win, she holds three Midwest Modified feature wins to her credit, the last being during the 2022 racing season.
For the second straight Saturday, the Midwest Modifieds participated in a frenetic event that saw wild twists and turns and a finish that was so close, it took the electronic scoring to determine just who the winner was.
Mike Schnider took the early lead and managed to stay in front of all the wild action that was going on behind him on the track with drivers swapping positions on virtually every lap. Jake Stai, Joe Swearingen, Blake Adams, Nick Koehler and Brady Larson were all among those battling back and forth for position.
Adams and Koehler had moved into third and fourth by the halfway point behind Schnider and Stai as the pace of the race continued to be very fast. Adams continued to move forward and he found his way to second where he began to close in on Schnider.
Slower traffic became and issue and played a part in the outcome of the event as Schnider got bogged down by a pair of slower cars, Adams caught him and made a dive to take over the lead. Unfortunately, things then got wild as Schnider was clipped by one of the slower cars and spun while at the same time, contact with a slower car gave Adams a flat tire. He was forced to pit and return to the tail of the field while Schnider was restored to the lead.
With only three laps to go, Schnider had to hold off Koehler and Larson who were now right behind him. Schnider also did that but on the final corner of the race, Koehler made a great move to the outside and tried to drive around Schnider. Koehler got a great run on the top side and when they crossed the finish line, it was too close to call. The automatic scoring system that the track uses reported that Koehler had won the race but only three one thousandth of a second over Schnider in one of the closest finishes in track history! Larson held on to get third place. It was Koehler’s second feature win of the year at the track.
Ryan Olson was just four short laps away from earning his first ever Super Stock feature win but things didn’t play out in his favor late in the race and instead, Shawn McFadden won his first Super Stock feature ever at Rice Lake.
Olson led the majority of the race, taking the early lead and fighting off challenges from Terran Spacek, Steve Stuart and Alex Myers. All three had shots at Olson at various times during the first half of the race but Ryan maintained his groove and fought them all off. Several times he had other drivers to his inside but he was always able to out speed them down the back chute and hold on to his lead.
The final yellow waved with fourteen laps completed for a Spacek car problem and McFadden now found himself running second.
He had started eighth and patiently had worked his way to the front, taking advantage of other’s issues and with just six laps left, he made his move. He challenged Olson hard and slipped inside of him in turn one with just four laps remaining to take over the lead.
Showing his speed, he then pulled away over the final few laps to take the win while Myers was able to also slip past Olson and secure the second spot at the finish. The Super Stocks remain the most competitive class at the track this year, with four winners in five weeks of racing.
The Street Stock feature was full of action with the lead position changing hands four times over the first six laps between three different drivers. Shawn Amundson slipping inside Danny Richards on the opening lap from the second row to edge out Richards as the early leader. However, Richards came back strong to grab the front spot. They weren’t done battling yet though as Amundson took back the lead until Richards grabbed it once again on lap four.
These wild exchanges of the lead, however, allowed Parker Anderson to close on the top two and on lap six, he drove past both of them to take over the point. He then began to pull away from both as he built momentum while Amundson and Richards continued to battle while they chased him.
Parker looked to be in great shape, maintaining a comfortable lead past the halfway point of the contest. How ever, things turned for him in a flash as a slower car spun right in front of him, clipped the leader hard and sent him spinning into the infield, triggering the yellow.
Anderson was restored to the top spot but his car wasn’t the same after that with the front wheels seemingly pointing crookedly. When the green flew once again, he was unable to fight off the advance of Amundson who took back the lead with just four laps to go and then pulled away. Richards was also able to get past Anderson for second and that’s the way they finished.
For Amundson, it was his third feature win already in 2026 at the track.
C.J. “Station”Wagner led from start to finish to win the Pure Stock feature, his first win at the track in 2026. Driving his very unique looking Chevrolet Station Wagon, he held off stiff challenges form Tyler Wahlstrom and Austin Fencl to take the win.
While Wagner took the initial lead, he had Wahlstrom right on his rear bumper looking for an opening to pounce. And behind them, Tom Treviranous, Bob and Simon Wahlstrom and James Rahn were jockeying for position.
Six laps were completed when Rahn went up in a cloud of smoke, triggering the first yellow of the race. Wagner continued to lead with Tyler Wahlstrom right behind while those behind them continued to fight for position.
Treviranous found the wall on the front chute with nine laps completed which stopped the race for the second time. Meanwhile, Fencl was executing the drive of the race. After breaking in his heat race, he was forced to start thirteenth in the feature but steadily moved to the front. By the time that last yellow flew, he was up to third and then he continued to advance, getting past Tyler Wahlstrom for the runner up position.
Wagner continued to hold his line over the last three laps and while Fencl closed in, Wagner held on for the win with Tyler Wahlstrom getting his best finish of the season to date.
It was the first win of 2026 for Wagner but the fifteenth Pure Stock win of his career at Rice Lake.
Highly competitive racing has been the story so far this year and that is expected to continue when another five division program is scheduled for next Saturday night, May 30th. Race time will be 6 pm and in two weeks, the Legend Cars make their first ever appearance at the track on June 6th.
The track website, www.ricelakespeedway.net and the face book page are the best places to find the latest information on the track.
