MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Republican candidate for governor Congressman Tom Tiffany says if elected he would call a special legislative session on day one to repeal Democratic Governor Tony Evers’ 400‑year veto.

Tiffany argues that using surplus funds for temporary tax relief isn’t a long‑term solution.

“The big difference between what I’m proposing and what Governor Evers is doing, he’s talking about doing something temporary. This is a band-aid. This is for just one year. What I’m talking about here is let’s end this permanent 400 year property tax increase,” Tiffany said.

Democratic candidate Mandela Barnes says property taxes have risen because Tiffany backed underfunding public schools and preserving tax breaks for the ultra‑wealthy while serving in the Wisconsin Legislature.
