AMERY, Wis. (WJMC) — A person has died after a fire at a bar in rural Amery.

Polk County Sheriff Brent Waak said firefighters were called to UW Wanderoos, west of Amery, at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Everyone inside the bar, and two apartments above the bar, escaped the fire, but one of the people involved suffered a medical event and died. Their name has not been released but will be at a later time.

The building was consumed by the fire and the structure was considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire was not known a this time and was under investigation by the state fire marshal, the Wisconsin DOJ’s Division of Criminal Investigations, Polk County Medical Examiner and Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire involved 10 fire departments, including Allied, Amery, Osceola, Deer Park, Unity, Apple River, St. Croix Falls, Clear Lake, Clayton and New Richmond fire departments, and other medical and municipal agencies.
