WAUSAU, Wis. (WRN) — With temperatures plummeting across Wisconsin, it’s important not to take any risks to heat your home.

“Not using the oven, not using space heaters improperly and making sure they maintain their furnaces. If they aren’t running right, maybe call a professional to come look at it,” said Wausau Fire Chief Jeremy Kopp said.

According to the National Weather Service, forecast temperatures in the negative 30s to near -40F are the coldest in at least five years for many locations in northern Wisconsin. Some areas will stay below zero through Monday afternoon. Wind chills will be at their lowest Friday morning with values in the negative 40s and 50s.
