MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — School consolidation legislation passes the state Assembly.

Republican authored bills would provide incentives and grants for districts that consolidate or share grades. Chippewa Valley Democrat Christian Phelps says, “there are not too many school districts in Wisconsin.”

“This is a problem Republicans who have controlled this legislature for 15 years have manufactured for the sake of siphoning every last cent away from our public schools to privatize the entire system,” Phelps said.

Principal author, Pleasant Prairie Republican Amanda Nedweski says New York state spends more per pupil than Wisconsin and has lower educational outcomes

“As they elect more communist leaders like Zoran Mamdani, I suspect more New Yorkers will rapidly flee the tax and spend democratic socialist policies. More spending is not a strategy, it’s denial,” Nedweski said.

The bills would need to pass the state Senate early next year before going to Democratic Governor Tony Evers, who’d likely veto them.
